Today, I was tasked to write a #WomenWeLove piece, celebrating the strength, resilience and determination of amazing women. When I asked around the office and some of my closest friends who they saw as an iconic strong woman, the response was mixed – it included some amazing women such as Julie Bishop, Michelle Obama, Amal Clooney, Sheryl Sandburg but the top answer was “my mum”.
As a mum of two beautiful boys I wondered what they would say about me. And, when they look back in years to come, what they will remember me for…… hopefully they won’t just remember me shouting “tidy your room!”
So in celebration of International Women’s Day 2019 #IWD2019, I wanted to recognise all the amazing mothers around the world. Here are some words of inspiration my friends received from their mums:

Nadia’s Mum
My favourite life advice from my mum is…“With age, I’ve come to know that kindness and understanding is what takes you far in life. So always be as empathetic as you can be.”

Taya, Flynn and Carters’ mum
My favourite life advice from my mum is…“Follow your dreams and your passion”

Amanda’s Mum
My favourite life advice from my mum is…“I am bored of looking at all these bills now! It’s depressing!! Now let’s pack them away and have a glass of Moët darling!”

Victoria’s Mum
My favourite life advice from my mum is…“You can do anything if you just put your mind into it.”

Alara’s mum
My favourite life advice from my mum is…“Never give into failure “

Charlie’s mum
My favourite life advice from my mum is…“Do not over complicate things… don’t waste time doing things you don’t love doing, people will forgive you for not doing them if you forgive yourself. “

Shauna’s Mum
My favourite life advice from my mum is…“You need 3 things in life 1. Someone to love, 2. Something you love to do, 3. Something to look forward to.”

Kerrie’s Mum
My favourite life advice from my mum is…“Sleep with a man before you marry him as he might be rubbish in bed”

Alex’s Grandmother
My favourite life advice from my grandmother is…“Don’t be afraid to dance in public because you don’t know when you won’t be able to dance no more.”

Adam’s Mum
My favourite life advice from my mum is…My mum’s never been one for words but definitely shows her values in her actions and what she’s taught is; to always fight for what you believe in, love unconditionally, never give up, be true to yourself & others, especially those in more need than you.

Jodes’s Mum
My favourite life advice from my mum is…“Doesn’t matter where you are or what time it is I am only ever a phone call away whenever you need.”

Skye’s Mum
My favourite life advice from my mum is…Mum and I talk everyday. If only just to say hello. Mum says a lot of things but one she has always said is “believe in yourself”

Natalie’s Mum
My favourite life advice from my mum is…When I think about my mum it’s less about the advice but more about her positive outlook even when she was going through chemotherapy a few years ago.

Lisa’s mum
My favourite life advice from my mum is…My mum is a powerhouse. She’s strong and incredibly determined. If she wants something done she doesn’t wait for someone to do it for her. She taught me that you can do anything if you put your mind to it. And she’s right.
I hope my boys will say….my favourite life advice from my mum is……..
“Always be You because there is no one else like You and You are amazing!”
Happy International Womens day to all the amazing women I am privileged to know.. and their fabulous mums!
