This year’s SS19 runway were scattered with avant-garde fashion.
From outfits made from duck tapes to the head-to-toe gingham witch fantasy worn by Sasha Velour, fashion is brilliantly subversive this season. But as much as we love imaginative fashion, what we really need is a glimpse of what is about to hit our streets and stores, the most commanding trends of the upcoming spring season.
Here is Shop You’s report on the strongest trends from the NYFW Runway.
NYFW Runway Trend #1: Preppy Chic
Stripes, button-up shirting and classic blazers have landed on the runway at Oscar de la Renta, Opening Ceremony and Tome. Preppy-Up your wardrobe with upstyled blazers, work shirts and tailored pants in classic blues or greys, then add an accent top or accessory to lift the heaviness out of your outfit. Get your personalised edit of reimagined workwear here.
NYFW Runway Trend #2: Colour it Bold or Go Home
The muted shades of Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week are gone and colours are back in full swing. Take cues from Zimmermann, Oscar de la Renta, Opening Ceremony and Alice + Olivia and experiment outside of your colour comfort zone. Cool-toned? Experiment with pink or red to bring out the brighter side of your style. If you are warm-toned, try mustard yellow (trust me, it works) or bright green to compliment the deep dimensions of your complexion. Explore new colours of the season curated to your taste here.
NYFW Runway Trend #3: Street is the New Norm
Street Style has been dominating the fashion scene for years now, but this season designers have really proven how normalised street pieces have become even on high-fashion runways. Experiment with leather windbreakers. Throw on a hoodie over your silk dress. Style your linen shirt with designer joggers. This is the age of fun and comfort.
NYFW Runway Trend #4: Feminine Fantasy
Femininity in the real world comes from all woman, from their power and strength. Female empowerment has awoken a homage to what is considered traditionally feminine in many brands – the use of ruffles, silk, wraps, lace, and curvy lines. From the rise of Zimmermann as an international fashion powerhouse to the resurgence of florals headed by Gucci, right now, Female means power. What results are incredibly ornate, technically superior and beautifully soft pieces – and we are all here for it.
